Pedagogy
At LAND, dialogue remains the spirit and substance of our work as we foster communities of practice where various disciplinary and experiential ways of knowing interact-and thoughts interconnect across contexts and beyond boundaries of meaning. Our creative pedagogy practice uses unique research-based approaches to nurture the potential of each learner by allowing them to make their own choices in experiencing knowledge creation, acquisition, and implementation. Our work draws its scope from the philosophy of the ‘gap’- a nook or cranny, suggesting an opening for a collaborative rethinking of existing structures. This gap invites learners to ask conscious questions and generates artful thinking in relation to perspectives of boredom, pause, care: critical components of learning itself.
We enter systems and spaces without presupposed hierarchies; for learners, too, are educators. Our approach, therefore, is directed at building an equitable community, where its constituents ask questions and respond to mistakes with both a careful and carefree state of mind. Our emphasis and expectation are that such optimistic yet pragmatic perspectives, gained from intervening creatively in their own lived experiences, should serve as blueprints for their education.
To that end, learning must unfold through reciprocity and responsibility, so as to exchange meaningfully-not to master the world but to participate within it. Listening to what has endured through times past, attending to what emerges in the present moment, and remaining accountable to futures yet to flourish, learning becomes for us not the pursuit of certainty but the practice of informed inquiry. After all, trailing the path of discovering the world and its wonders, learners discover, in the process, themselves. We enter the unfolding process of our Pedagogy of Wonder as a living practice of research in action.
